Reminder – processing tomato root health/yield survey

Processing tomato growers can still participate in a survey of processing tomato fields in southwestern Ontario to investigate the correlation between tomato root health and yield. This information will allow for the assessment of the role of root rot in vine decline as measured by yield data. Growers are busy with harvest, but OMAFRA and AAFC staff are willing to take some samples for growers.  Contact Janice LeBoeuf at 519-674-1699 or janice.leboeuf@ontario.ca to get involved.  There is an optional short questionnaire on field history, and then growers would be asked to provide yield data in the fall for the block(s) sampled.  Exact yield is not required, but most growers can probably identify their yield to within 5 tons/acre, which is adequate for this survey.  To maximize the statistical significance of the data collected, our preference for tomato varieties to be included in this survey are:N3306, 337, 5108, 9553, 2401, 696, 9706, and TSH 29.
