Focus on Tomato – Plant Management Network

Focus on Tomato is an online educational resource launched in 2012 by the Plant Management Network, a not-for-profit publisher of agricultural and horticultural resources.

It features webcasts aimed at helping growers and consultants develop healthier, higher yielding tomato crops as well as improve their knowledge in storage and food safety.  There are currently 11 webcasts (update April 2013 – now 16 webcasts) on the site, including Septoria Leaf Spot of Tomato, with Dr. Tom Zitter of Cornell University, Pest Threat of the Invasive Brown Marmorated Stink Bug to Tomatoes in the US with Dr. Tom Kuhar of Virginia Tech, Managing Perennial Weeds in Tomatoes with Dr. Steve Weller of Purdue University, and  The Late Blight Pandemic in Northeastern USA in 2009 – Causes and Results with Dr. Bill Fry, Cornell University.  New webcasts are added periodically.  Users can subscribe to an RSS feed to be notified of new posts.

The home page also provides links to additional online resources.  The Partner Extension Search allows users to find online factsheets, publications, and other resources from partner universities and extension services.  The Cross-Journal Search allows users to find research abstracts from over a dozen scientific journals including Plant Disease, Weed Science, and the Journal of Economic Entomology.

With a Plant Management Network (PMN) subscription, additional resources can be accessed including a database of pesticide efficacy trials and full access to PMN journals.  PMN is jointly managed by the American Society of AgronomyAmerican Phytopathological Society, and Crop Science Society of America.
