Reason® 500SC Fungicide label expanded for management of downy mildew on basil and Brassica crops

The Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) recently announced the approval of a minor use label expansion registration for Reason® 500SC Fungicide for control of downy mildew on basil and an amendment to update the label to include management of downy mildew on the new Brassica vegetable crop groups 5-13 and 4-13B in Canada. The head and stem Brassica vegetable group includes cabbage, napa cabbage, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower and broccoli and the new Brassica leafy greens crop group includes arugula, Chinese broccoli, Chinese cabbage, bok choy, collards, cress, kale, mizuna, mustard greens, etc.  Reason® Fungicide was already labeled for use on a number of crops in Canada for control of several diseases.

Minor Use Label Expansion – Prowl H2O for transplant tomatoes on mineral soil

The Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) recently announced the approval of minor use label expansion registration for Prowl® H2O Herbicide for control of labeled weeds on transplanted field tomatoes grown in mineral soil in Canada. Prowl® H2O Herbicide was already labeled for use on a number of crops in Canada for control of several weeds.

This minor use project was submitted by Ontario as a result of minor use priorities established by growers and extension personnel.

The following is provided as an abbreviated, general outline only. Users should be making weed management decisions within a robust integrated weed management program and should consult the complete label before using Prowl® H2O Herbicide.

Prowl® H2O Herbicide is toxic to aquatic organisms and non-target terrestrial plants.  Do not apply this product or allow drift to other crops or non-target areas. Do not contaminate off-target areas or aquatic habitats when spraying or when cleaning and rinsing spray equipment or containers. In field tomatoes, do not apply Prowl® H2O Herbicide more than once in two consecutive years.

Follow all other precautions, restrictions and directions for use on the Prowl® H2O Herbicide label carefully.

Minor Use Label Expansion – Delegate for flea beetles on root vegetables

The Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) recently announced the approval of a Minor Use label expansion of Delegate Insecticide for suppression of flea beetles on several root vegetables. Crops added to the label:

  • Radish
  • Horseradish
  • Oriental Radish
  • Rutabaga
  • Turnip
  • Carrot

Delegate was already labeled for control of diamondback moth, cabbage looper and imported cabbageworm on these crops.

The following is provided as an abbreviated, general outline only. Users should consult the complete label before using Delegate Insecticide.

Switch® Fungicide label expanded for Celery Leaf Curl

The Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) recently announced the approval of an URMULE registration for Switch® Fungicide for control of anthracnose (leaf curl) on celery in Canada. Switch® Fungicide was already labeled for use on a number of crops in Canada for control of several diseases.

This minor use project was submitted as a result of minor use priorities established by growers and extension personnel.

The following is provided as an abbreviated, general outline only. Users should be making pest management decisions within a robust integrated disease management program and should consult the complete label before using switch fungicide.


Switch® Fungicide is TOXIC to aquatic organisms. Fludioxonil is persistent and may carryover. It is recommended that any products containing fludioxonil not be used in areas treated with this product during the previous season. Do not permit Switch Fungicide to contaminate off-target areas or aquatic habitats when spraying or when cleaning and rinsing spray equipment or containers. 

Follow all precautions and detailed directions for use on the Switch® Fungicide label carefully.

Minor use label expansion for malathion for brown marmorated stink bug

The Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) recently announced the conditional approval of the 3rd Canadian minor use label expansion for brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB) for MALATHION 85E insecticide (malathion) for suppression of BMSB on a large number of currently labeled crops in Canada. MALATHION 85E was already labeled for management of a variety of insect pests on several crops in Canada.

This minor use submission for BMSB was sponsored in 2011 by the minor use office of OMAFRA in response to the urgent threat posed to agriculture by this new invasive pest and minor use priorities identified by producers and extension personnel in Canada.
