Comparing Farm Value of Vegetables to Other Ontario Crops

Janice LeBoeuf, OMAFRA Vegetable Crop Specialist, Ridgetown

I put together these graphs for a meeting I’m helping to organize, so I thought I’d share them here.

The first compares the farm value of five of the top field vegetable crops in Ontario, as well as comparing the size of the processing tomato crop to the total field tomato crop.

The second compares field tomatoes to other major Ontario horticultural crops.

The third compares the value of some of the major horticultural crops to the big three field crops in Ontario.

    Hi,
I need to understand what is the farm value exactly means. Is it the cost of the productions? Or it is the price of the production in the market, like when the farmer sell them.

    Appreciate the answer
