Once again the Ontario Cucumber Research Committee is funding a downy mildew scouting program for pickling cucumbers.  In Norfolk, the scouting services are provided by the Norfolk Fruit Growers Association.  In Kent County, the program is managed by Tomecek Ag Services.

For the week of June 24-28, 2019 there were no reports of downy mildew at any of the scouting locations.

To date, cucurbit downy mildew has been active in Florida, the Carolina’s, and as far  north as Delaware.  Downy mildew controls are always most effective when applied prior to the onset of disease. Apply preventative fungicides at row closure, or earlier if downy mildew is identified in the Great Lakes region.
