Garlic Production and Pest Management Workshop

This workshop will cover every part of garlic production in Ontario including:

  • cultivar selection
  • planting density
  • weed management
  • soil testing
  • fertility
  • scape removal
  • crop insurance
  • pathogen / disease identification
  • pest identification
  • pesticide phase outs and new products
  • pest management (biological, cultural and chemical controls)
  • harvesting
  • curing
  • storage

Special emphasis will be put on Fusarium management, improving storage, as well as integrating recent work on:

  • clean seed / tissue culture production
  • herbicide trials
  • leek moth surveying and management
  • planting early (planting date trial)
  • intercropping oats, clover and sorghum Sudan grass

After all the main content is covered, and if time allows, we will also go over:

  • a garlic cost of production spreadsheet
  • using the new Ontario Crop Protection Hub
  • the soon-to-be released CropIPM garlic website
