Root, bulb, leafy and brassica vegetable pest report – 13 May 2013

See below for the degree days accumulated from April 1st until May 12th, 2013. These values are provided as guidelines only and provide an estimate of activity and development stages of certain insect pests in the field.  Local environment/climate/conditions, soil type, field history, etc. are likely to influence activity and presence of these pests in the field. 

Thresholds for emergence of first generation onion maggot fly adults have been reached for Bradford/Holland Marsh, London, Windsor, Thedford, Delhi and Ridgetown. If resident populations are present, carrot rust fly adults may start to emerge in the Windsor area in a couple days and are likely to emerge over the next 5-7 days in Bradford/Holland Marsh, London, Thedford and Ridgetown areas. If resident populations are present, carrot weevil have likely started to lay eggs in Bradford/Holland Marsh, London, Thedford, Windsor and Ridgetown areas. Tarnished plant bug nymphs may have emerged in Bradford/Holland Marsh, London, Windsor, Thedford, Delhi and Ridgetown already and will soon emerge in Wellington. Overwintering leafhopper eggs have likely started to hatch in the Windsor area and will soon hatch in London and Thedford areas.
