2026 Garlic Production and Pest Management Workshop

This workshop will cover every part of garlic production in Ontario including:

  • cultivar selection
  • planting density
  • weed management
  • soil testing
  • fertility
  • scape removal
  • crop insurance
  • pathogen / disease identification
  • pest identification
  • pest management (biological, cultural and chemical controls)
  • available pest control products
  • pesticide phase outs and new products
  • harvesting
  • curing
  • storage

Special emphasis will be put on Fusarium management, improving storage, as well as integrating recent work on:

  • clean seed / tissue culture production
  • herbicide trials
  • leek moth surveying and management
  • planting early (planting date trial)
  • intercropping oats, clover and sorghum Sudan grass

After all the main content is covered, and if time allows, we will also go over:

  • a garlic cost of production spreadsheet
  • using the new Ontario Crop Protection Hub
  • the soon-to-be released CropIPM garlic website

      The workshop is valuable for all acreages of growers with examples of production practices for small diversified growers as well as commercial growers. The general production as well as insect and pest sections are relevant to all growers.
