Cucurbit Downy Mildew Update

Downy mildew activity continues south of the border with a recent confirmation in New Jersey.  While NJ is not in the great lakes basin, it does indicate that the disease is on the move.  The start of the tropical storm season will also increase the risk of spore movement across the US and into Canada.  View a map of downy mildew activty across North America at cdm.ipmpipe.org

Scout all cucumber fields regularly for signs of downy mildew.  A preventative fungicide program is the best line of defence against this aggressive disease.  Recommended downy mildew fungicides include; Ranman, Tattoo C and Presidio.  For the complete 2011 Downy Mildew Control Strategy, visit http://www.omafra.gov.on.ca/english/crops/hort/2011-downy-cucurbits.htm
