An additional workshop location and time has been added for Eastern Ontario in addition to the workshop that was already scheduled to take place in Guelph. This workshop will cover every part of garlic production in Ontario including:
- cultivar selection
- planting density
- weed management
- soil testing
- fertility
- scape removal
- crop insurance
- pathogen / disease identification
- pest identification
- pesticide phase outs and new products / minor use update
- pest management (biological, cultural and chemical controls)
- harvesting
- curing
- storage
Special emphasis will be put on Fusarium management, improving storage, as well as integrating recent work on:
- clean seed / tissue culture production
- herbicide trials
- leek moth surveying and management
- planting early (planting date trial)
- intercropping oats, clover and sorghum Sudan grass
After all the main content is covered, and if time allows, we will also go over:
- a garlic cost of production spreadsheet
- using the new Ontario Crop Protection Hub
- the soon-to-be released CropIPM garlic website
